She was admitted to the United States as a visitor in April 1969 and received extensions of stay until May 1970. In August 1971, deportation proceedings were instituted against her on the ground that she had remained in the U.S. longer than permitted. In December 1971, she was married to a U.S. citizen, and he filed a visa petition on her behalf which was approved in February 1972. However, that petition was invalidated by her husband's death two months later as the result of an auto accident. 2 Mrs. Bokosky completed 14 years of schooling in her native country, including two years of business college. She was at last report employed as an assembler earning $130 per week. Absent this legislation, Mrs. Bokosky would be chargeable to the nonpreference portion of the numerical limitation for immigrants and conditional entrants from Eastern Hemisphere countries.
