Ford Presidential Library THE WHITE HOUSE WASHINGTON DINNER IN HONOR OF HIS EXCELLENCY GASTON THORN PRIME MINISTER OF LUXEMBOURG November 12, 1975 7:30 p.m. Dress: Black Tie Arrival: 7:30 p.m. Your guests will arrive through the Diplomatic Reception Room and will be escorted to the Red Room for mixed drinks. 7:40 p.m. You will be escorted via elevator to the North Portico where you will greet Prime Minister Thorn. NOTE: Photo coverage of greeting. You will escort Prime Minister Thorn to the Red Room where you will join your guests for mixed drinks. Dinner: Rectangular table 8:00 p.m. You will escort Prime Minister Thorn to the State Dining Room for Dinner. At the conclusion of dinner, you will rise and propose a toast -- Prime Minister Thorn will respond. NOTE: Suggested toast is attached (Tab A). NOTE: There will be no press coverage of the toasts -- toasts will be piped to the press -- transcripts will be released to the press. - 2 - Prime Minister Thorn Dinner After Dinner: -- You will escort Prime Minister Thorn to the Red Room -- guests will proceed to the Red Room. - - Demitasse, liqueurs and cigars will be served to your guests. FORD Wednesday, Nov. 12, Photo session, South entrance to White House. 4 p.m. Mrs. Ford will meet Liliane Thorn, wife of Pickup in press Prime Minister Gaston Thorn of Luxembourg. lobby 3:45 p.m. Mrs. Ford and Mrs. Thorn will have tea in the Family Quarters of the White House, afterwhich Mrs. Thorn will receive a tour of the White House. Thursday, Nov. 13 Mrs. Ford will receive about 200 members of the 3 p.m. National Council of Negro Women at the White Pickup in press House. The Council is holding its Biennial lobby 2:45 p.m. Convention in Washington Nov. 10-15. Friday, Nov. 14 St. Johns Church, 16th and H Sts. NW. Mrs. 10 a. m. Ford will cut the ribbon and open St. John's Press should meet a nnual bazaar. A photo session with Mrs. Ford at NW entrance touring the booths will precede the ribbon cutting. lla.m. State Dining Room, The White House. Mrs. Ford will host the official presentation of the new publication "The First Ladies. " The book, published by the National Geographic Society as a public service, will be sold by the White House Historical Association, with proceeds used to defray the book's printing costs and to buy historic items for the White House. GENERAL ASSEMBLY'S ANTI-ZIONISM RESOLUTION WEDNESDAY WITH THE BODY'S PRESIDING OFFICER, LUXEMBOURG PRIME MINISTER GASTON THORN. THEY MET FOR 60 MINUTES IN FORD'S OVAL OFFICE, FORD REPRESENTING THE NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY ORGANIZATION'S LARGEST POWER AND THORN ITS SMALLEST. A WHITE HOUSE STATEMENT SAID THE TWO FOUND "NO BILATERAL PROBLEMS OF ANY SIGNIFICANCE" BETWEEN THEIR TWO COUNTRIES BUT ALSO REVIEWED WORK IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY WHICH MONDAY PASSED AN ANTI-ISRAELI RESOLUTION CALLING ZIONISM A FORM OF RACISM. THE STATEMENT DID NOT DETAIL WHAT WAS SAID ABOUT THE RESOLUTION, WHICH BOTH AMERICA AND LUXEMBOURG OPPOSED. BUT, WHILE POSING FOR PHOTOGRAPHERS AT THE START OF THE MEETING, FORD TALKED OF IRRESPONSIBILITY ARISING "AT A CERTAIN POINT" IN THE UNITED NATIONS. HE SMILED AND ASKED THORN, PRESIDING OFFICER OF THE ASSEMBLY'S CURRENT 30TH SESSION, "HOW DO YOU LIKE YOUR NEW RESPONSIBILITY?" THORN STARTED TO REPLY. THEN BOTH MEN LAUGHED. "IT'S NOT AN EASY WAY TO START OUT," FORD SAID. THORN, LUXEMBOURG'S FOREIGN AS WELL AS PRIME MINISTER, SAID HE ALSO WAS INVOLVED IN REPRESENTING HIS GRAND DUCHY IN THE EUROPEAN COMMON MARKET COUNCILS. "I HOPE YOUR HEALTH IS GOOD," FORD SAID.
