NARA 601 Trinity- - Washington Building Atlanta, Georgia 30334 June 20, 1972 Dear Cousin Bess and Cousin Harry: Just a short note to let you know that Corbie was operated on yesterday in the St. Pauls Hospital in Dallas, Texas for a heart vascular condition. I went to see him on Sunday before the operation and he was in fair condition considering his deficiencies. However, without the operation his condition probably would have been fatal. I heard from Fran last night and again this morning and she stated that the doctors were very happy concerning the results of the operation. He has passed the sixteen - hour deadline without complications and probably will be in intensive care for about three days. He did not have a heart attack, per se, nor a stroke, but there were physical conditions which he experienced which caused him to go to the doctor. As a result of an arteriogram, it was determined that the front main artery was 99% blocked, the rear artery was 75% occlusion and one of the side arteries was badly corroded. As a result the operation was an absolute necessity. Drs. Adams and Mitchell at the Baylor Medical Center are two of the best in the country for this type operation. We felt fortunate indeed that they would perform the operation. Thought maybe you might want to know about this condition. I will keep you informed.
