I have with me in the Voice of America studios in Washing-
ton Mr. Earl J. McGrath, the United States Commissioner of
Education. Mr. McGrath is expecting to leave Washington late in
September as a member of the U. S. Delegation to the Montevideo
Seminar on primary education in the Americas.
Q. Now, Mr. McGrath, what will be the precise purpose
of your trip?
A. Yes, Mr. Hogan, I expect that if it is at all possible,
to go to Montevideo some time in September to attend the Montevideo
Seminar on Primary Education in the Americas. This conference
which is sponsored jointly by the UNESCO, the Organization of
American States, and the Government- of Jruguay is, in my opinion,
one of the most important conferences on education held in recent
years.
Q. What are the objectives of this seminar, Mr. McGrath?
A. The objectives of the seminar are principally concerned
with the matter of securing a fundamental education for all the
children of the Americas. The importance of fundamental education
for all has been recognized by the Organization of American States
