93-A September 18, 1946. My dear Mayor Jeffries: I have your gracious letter, addressed to the President, expressing the concern of the people of Detroit over recent happenings in the South. The Department of Justice has been directed X10 by the President to proceed with all its resources in the investigation of every case of alleged Federal x 596 violation of civil rights, If such a violation can be proved, the case will be vigorously prosecuted by the Department of Justice. The President is fully appreciative of your concern for the protection of the civil rights of all our citizens regardless of race, creed, or national origin. Let me assure you and the citizens of your city of the President's determination to see that they are upheld. Sincerely yours, MATTHEW J. CONNELLY Secretary to the President The Honorable, Edward J. Jeffries, Jr., Mayor of Detroit, x City Hall, Detroit, Michigan.
