THE WHITE HOUSE
DOUGLAS WILLIAM ORR, F.A.I.A.
ARCHITECT
APR 15 I 43 PM 55
NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT
RECEIVED
My dear Mr. President:
April 14, 1952
Now that the rush of work of completion of The White
House is over, I would like to express my very deep
appreciation for the honor and privilege of serving on
the Commission, as one of your appointees.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation
for your helpfulness and patience at times when frustrat-
ing circumstances caused delays which seemed inexcusable.
The delightful luncheon following the conclusion of the
work could not have been more fitting, and it was a great
privilege to attend with you the first formal luncheon
in the reconstructed building.
It is my hope that you and Mrs. Truman will so thoroughly
enjoy living there again as to make up for some of the
time when you were away.
I feel that the improvement to the grounds has been a
remarkable operation adding very materially to the appear-
ance of the building.
With kindest personal regards.
Douglas Sincerely, W. Orr U.
