My dear Mr. President:
Last August when I had the privilege of dis-
cussing with you the importance of Canadian-
American relations which are outstandingly happy
in the field of common endeavor, we agreed as I
remember that they might be even further cemented
by personal relationships. Since that time Mr.
King, the Prime Minister, has been your guest in
Washington. He expressed to me with what pleasure
and satisfaction he looks back on this visit when
he recently read to me your note of November 20th
to him with your very friendly references to
pleasant associations and future meetings. I
trust, Mr. President, in writing this note that
you may have had in mind not only my hope but also
your expressed desire to me last August to visit
Canada in the coming year when your high duties
permitted, and I am hoping the late spring may be
the occasion.
Shortly prior to Mr. King's recent visit to
Washington the Canadian Chief of Staff was the
guest in Washington of the United States Army
Chief of Staff and again with our conversation
of August in mind, I trust it may be possible at
some early moment for General Eisenhower to return
the visit to Ottawa and spend a Friday and Saturday
here. I believe the actual date should go over
until
to
The President,
ARGHIVES AMD "NATIONAL RECORDE of
The White House.
