Dear Aubrey:
I appreciated very much your letter of the
twenty-first in regard to the Chinese situation.
It is a very delicate one and one in which we
are vitally interested. Therefore, we can t

possibly afford to go off half-cocked on it.
General Marshall is better acquainted with the
situation than anybody in the United States,
having just spent a year over there. I believe
his judgment is to be trusted on the best approach
toward working that delicate situation out.
