DECLASSIFIED Authority E.O. 10501 RESTRI OTED Security Information APR241952 MEMORANDUM FOR THE PRESIDENT Subject: Peace Treaty wi th Japan There is attached for your approval a draft of a statement which it is recommended you make upon the coming into effect of the Peace Treaty with Japan and the Security Treaty between the United States and Japan. As previously announced, the United States will deposit its ratification of the Japanese Peace Treaty and exchange ratifications with Japan of the Security Treaty at approximately 9:30 I.M., Monday, April 28. This will be done at a small ceremony to be held in the auditorium of the Old State Building in which I will participate together with the Japanese repre- sentative in Washington. If you approve the attached statement, it is my desire to read it in connection wi. th that ceremony so that it will receive the widest possible circulation in Japan through the planned re- broadcast to Japan of the ceremony.
