THE CHIEF OF STAFF
WASHINGTON
14 April 1945
Dear Mr. Claudy:
I have your letter of 9 April concerning
the establishment of a Masonic Service Center in
the Philippines. Because of the extensive war dam-
age as well as the critical shortage of supplies
and shipping, the War Department has found it nec-
essary to afford recognition in the conduct of such
activities only to the Red Cross and to members of
the United Service Organizations with installations
at present in the Philippines.
I appreciate your desire to afford comfort
and relaxation for service men stationed in that area
and hope you will understand why it is not possible
for me to give you a more favorable reply at this
time.
Faithfully yours,
TRUMAN
