WAR DEPARTMENT THE CHIEF OF STAFF WASHINGTON 14 April 1945 Dear Mr. Claudy: I have your letter of 9 April concerning the establishment of a Masonic Service Center in the Philippines. Because of the extensive war dam- age as well as the critical shortage of supplies and shipping, the War Department has found it nec- essary to afford recognition in the conduct of such activities only to the Red Cross and to members of the United Service Organizations with installations at present in the Philippines. I appreciate your desire to afford comfort and relaxation for service men stationed in that area and hope you will understand why it is not possible for me to give you a more favorable reply at this time. Faithfully yours, TRUMAN HILL ARCHIVES s. NATIONAL RECORDS AND Mr. Carl H. Claudy, SERVICE Executive Secretary The Masonic Service Association of the United States 700 Tenth Street, N.W., Washington, D.C.
