SECRET Philippine Sea, the heavy cruisers Helena and Toledo, and nine destroyers. the group is scheduled to arrive in the Hawaiian area approximately 15 July. (ONI) f. U.S. and British Naval forces patrolling Korean Coast engaged six motor torpedo boats east coast Korea just south of latitude 380N. Five MTB's sunk. (PRESS) AIR g. On 30 June (KT), one USAF B-29 was attacked by olive-drab colored P-39 type aircraft. The attacking aircraft was smoking as it broke away. On 1 July flak from three guns were encountered vicinity Kimpo Airfield. Flak fairly accurate, fire intense, tracking good; appeared to be radar controlled. Flak encountered elsewhere was meager to mod- erate and generally inaccurate. (SECRET) (D/I-USAF) Final FEAF mission report covering period ending 2400/30(KT) states eight B-29's effectively bombed Kimpo Airfield, all hitting primary target and damaging majority of buildings and runways. Results other missions 30 June previously reported. USAF operations 1 July hampered by inclement weather. No results of bombings observed. Photo operations precluded by low overcasts. (SECRET) (D/I-USAF) Planned operations for 2 July (KT) include maximum B-29 effort along Han River in Seoul area and against Yonpo Airfield in North Korea. Objective latter mission was to destroy aircraft. Secondary target Wonsan Airfield. B-26's were to be used for ground support ROK forces. Fighters were to provide air cover of designated areas and of South Korean ground forces in vicinity Han River. Maximum fighter escort for air and surface transport of 24th Division planned.
