n. The aircraft repair ships FABIUS (ARVA 5) and AVENTINUS

U.S. AIR FORCES
*0. FEAF aircraft destroyed 7 tanks, 29 trucks, 1 locomotive,
12 box cars, 6 vehicles, 1 half-track, 4 oil storage tanks, and an estimated
100 troops, mostly in the Ulchin-Samchok-Kangnung area. An additional

Bridges at Samchok were destroyed, and a warehouse in Samchok harbor
left burning. B-26's hit the north end of a bridge northwest of Yongdok.
(D/I-USAF) (SECRET)
*p. Nineteen B-29's will be employed to destroy road and railway
bridges south of the 38th parallel by visual bombing. If impossible to bomb
visually, the last resort target will be the port and sub-base of Chinnampo.
Air superiority, interdiction, and close support missions will be flown by
129 F-80's, 15 F-51's, and 12 F-82's. Twenty-two B-26's are available
for missions as directed by Hq 5th Air Force. Airlift will be provided by
20 C-47's and 4 C-46's. (FEAF) (TOP SECRET)
4. General:
*a. Reportedly on 6 July the South Korean Second Regiment cap-
tured 6 Soviet tanks and later, in order to prevent their recapture, destroyed
them in the vicinity of Chungju. The South Koreans reportedly Identified
one of the tanks as a T-34/85. Another was described as weighing 60 tons,
21 feet 9.75 inches long, and mounting a 122-mm. cannon and a 50 caliber
and a 30 caliber machine gun. This latter tank reportedly was used at
Seoul and Chunchon. The tank reportedly could traverse most main roads
where previous loadings permitted. (FECOM) (SECRET) G-2 Comment:
It is unlikely, for security reasons, that the Soviets have provided the
North Koreans with the JS-3. Also the relatively poor terrain and road net
work in Korea are unsuited to the JS-3. It is considered more likely that
the Soviets would have provided the early KV heavy tanks, which the Soviets
held in large numbers. Other possibilities are that the heavy vehicle des-
cribed is the JS-1, the JS-2 or a heavy self-propelled vehicle.
