(SENATOR WORTH CLARK)
6:07pm WORTH to THOMAS CORCORAN asking him if he will give this fellow
ALUM (Phonetic) a ring. "I just talked to him. He's in New York.
He's had his associate in here, and I don't care much about him
(The associate), but just on account of CHARLIE HALLOCK (Phonetic)."
C--Were they in town today?
W--No, but he had his partner in from RYE (New York?), and they've
been waiting around up there and in New York. I think I
can get up there Monday or Tuesday now, but I told him that
you had gotten a private plane in from St. Louis this after-
noon; that you were in town and probably would go up there
tonight, see. You could tell him you just got in town, and
can't get up there until the first part of the week.
C--O.K. What's his number? You know there's really nothing to
tell him when you get up there; you never can beat JESSE
JONES if he really wants to buy this company
just between
us girls.
W--You might though with the TRAVELERS (Phon.); that's their
business and it isn't JESSE's.
C--I know, but if JESSE wants to buy this company
y--You mean if he wants to buy it at any price?
C--Yes, you can't beat him, you know. CHARLIE told me not to
tell them too much. You know I told him what the story was.
You know I expect to get up there myself. Why can't I call
him on Monday morning?
W--Except I told him that I'd try to locate you. His partner has
now gone back to Rye and wanted to keep in touch with him.
C--Who is ALUM's partner?
W--Oh, what is it
McCLOSKEY (Phon.).
C--Was it McCLOSKEY you saw?
W--No, it was ALUM we saw.
C--Well, was the partner down here.
W--No, the partner came down to New York. They've been up in
New York. They're not down here. I thought it might be a
good idea
they thought you were coming up on a
C--They were quite right, but I just couldn't make it that's all.
I told him in plenty of time. I told him I'd let him know
when I was coming up, but that's all right, I'll call him.
What's his number?
W--Oh, did you?
C--Sure, I told him, so he's Horsing you; but that's all right.
What's his number? And he told me to come up any day except
Tuesday. Incidentally, is WHEELER back in town?
W--I don't think so.
C--Would you make an inquiry to find out? IS WHERRY in town?
W--I don't know.
C--TOM CLARK asked me this afternoon if you and I had any way of
asking WHEELER and WHERRY to be decent to him. You see there's
a big story about his 1939, er 1936 income in the paper
tonight.
