April 9, 1962 Dear Professor Hawthorne: This will acknowledge your letter of recent date concerning the President's first visit to the White House. The first time the President visited the White House was during the Roosevelt administration. He saw President Roosevelt at that time and was shocked to see the President's difficult struggle - far greater than he had ever imagined. With kind regards. Sincerely, Evelyn Lincoln Personal Secretary to the President Jack Gardner Hawthorne Assistant Professor of Education Beaver College Jenkintown, Pennsylvania
