Dear Professor Hawthorne:
This will acknowledge your letter of
recent date concerning the President's first
visit to the White House.
The first time the President visited
the White House was during the Roosevelt
administration. He saw President Roosevelt
at that time and was shocked to see the
President's difficult struggle - far greater
than he had ever imagined.
