P: I just wanted to be sure that you follow up on hitting as many SAM
sites as they can find. Any in this area, not just one. Tell these fellows
it's an opportunity. Maybe 6 or 8. If there are others a few miles away,
get those. What do they use?
K: 105's
P: Not B-52's?
K: We have never used B'52's in NVN.
P: Now would be the time.
K: It is better to save those. B-52's are for area work and this is a
pinpoint job.
P: We can say there was an understanding that reconnaisance sites were
not out.
K: They have never used MIG 21's
P: We said we would hit reconnaisance targets, didn't we?
K: Yes
P: No more of this tit for tat. That's what happened in Korea. We are
not going to do it.
K: I talked to Laird today about the $65 million for pollution and that is
all right. I never showed bxixx the Berlin note to State.
P: That I kept referring to.
K: That's OK. I said it was a note to Brandt.
P: If there isn't one in the area tell them to find others.
K: There are several.
P: Bring in the planes and run them out. The British seem happy.
K: Wilson drew me aside after the lunch and said the NSC meetings
were most interesting. He had never seen options presented before.
So they can see the whole range of issues. Also, he was interested in the
