L: I wanted you to know my problem. And I'm not trying to pass it
on to someone else. I'm to be in hearings before the Jackson group (Stennis
presiding, but passing the gavel on to Jackson) on Thursday. It's on
strategic balance and they've announced it publicly. The only thing I'm afraid
of is that somebody might get into other areas. I'm trying to get out of it.
Do you think I should?
K: Let's wait till noon to see what else happens on Thursday. I 11 be
in touch with you later. What is your schedule this morning?
L: I have a civilian orientation group at 12:00 and the meeting with the
service secretaries.
K: You could spring half an hour if the President wanted youx to come
over or wanted to see you over there?
L: That goes without saying. And I should hold off on the 'executes. I
K: Yes. Should be planning to go Thursday night, and that cannot slip.
L: We told Abrams to go ahead for planning purposes that way.
K: I understand. And the President studies your memo last night.
You did the right thing.
