TELECON Mr. Kissinger/Herb Klein 8:00 p. m., May 22, 1970 K: The President called and said he wanted to make sure the news magazines covered the construction workers' business in New York. K1: I think it's important that they do this, too. He was talking about the 150, 000? K: Yes. Secondly, may I make a suggestion? Rogers said you called him and suggested that the President should see Palme. K1: No, I didn't. What happened was the Ambassador came by and said he was sorry he threw stones at our Ambassador. He called a couple of times -- I said he should talk to you and Rogers. I sent a note to Bill Rogers in which I said the Ambassador called, and asked him about this question. I said the President X shouldn't see him. K: By the time he got through, he said you told him you would use your influence with the White House for the President to see Palme. He wasn't confident enough to tell the President himself, SO he told me; trying to line me up. I knew how the President XXXXXXXXXX disliked that guy. I think it's a lousy idea. He came over on his own to receive an honorary degree. Have you been invited to the Swedish Embassy? We are trying to discourage White House people from going. K1: Yes, I got an invitation. K: I think it's better for no White House people to go. K1: I'm glad you mentioned this. Incidentally, I am going on "Face the Nation" on Sunday. I think it's important that I talk to you tomorrow before I do this. lds
