[Warren began conversation by reading excerpts from the
transcript of the briefing. ]
W: What I said was the meeting was not called to make a
dramatic decision, but called for a military briefing.
K : That's good. That explains why Rogers is not there.
of course we could say "Is he ever there when we make big
decisions?"
W: There's a rumor going around that you hdd a meeting
with a businessman the President had met with. Is that true?
K : I met one of them.
W: You were quoted as saying the success of the Cambddian
operation could lead to our withdrawl from South Vietnam in
six to eight weeks.
K: Absolute total nonsense and baloney. Eight to ten
weeks is more like it.
W: Eight to ten weeks?
K: You don appreciate my sense of humor. It was a
very informal meeting and I would never say anything like
that. I'm getting the President not to say anything about
a new deadline next year.
W: You don't know what would have given that impressien?
K :
No, I may have said either Cambodian operations or
results of them will be clear in 6 to 8 weeks.
