- 3 - military to shape up and get it done. I want the Indonesians to send some stuff. We will x their stuff. Of course we will get a military request from Indonesia anyway. So let's see what we can accomplish. HAK: I will have it done by tomorrow evening. Pres: What about ;your message? HAK: They asked him to come at 11:30. When he got there they said'I called to tell you I will be leaving for Hanoi for about two weeks, I want you to know you should deliver it through these men." Pres: Didn't he deliver message already to the fact that we were prepared to meet on May 23? HAK: If they wanted to indicate an interest in keeping the channel open this was the subtlest way of doing it. I think this is really a signal that they are trying to keep the hhannel open. It is a very subtle way of conveying the idea that the channel is open. Why else would they say if you have a message here is the man to give it to. They could have just left. In 1967 when I dealt with them they wouldn't even speak directly -- it all had to be done on the telephone. I think this is a rather interesting phenomenan. Pres: Fine. (NLN07-20/17: P. 3of3]
