ARRIVAL REMARKS FOR ISRAEL
It is a great pleasure for me to return again to
Israel. Seven years ago, I cam in the aftermath of a war.
Today, I come in the midst of events which we all hope and
pray are a prologue to a just and lasting peace. For the
first time since the founding of Israel there is a genuine
cause for hope that the futures of the children of Israel
and the children of her neighbors can be one of constructive
cooperation and progress, putting an end to the decades of
confrontation.

If we move together towards peace, history may
record these times as a landmark -- for Israel, for its
neighbors and for the world.
An American visiting Israel is struck with many
emotions:
-- Our peoples are joined together by a cultural
and religious heritage which has helped to chart the
course of history.
