(Koch/NSC) DG SECOND DRAFT June 15, 1974 ARRIVAL REMARKS FOR ISRAEL It is a great pleasure for me to return again to Israel. Seven years ago, I cam in the aftermath of a war. Today, I come in the midst of events which we all hope and pray are a prologue to a just and lasting peace. For the first time since the founding of Israel there is a genuine cause for hope that the futures of the children of Israel and the children of her neighbors can be one of constructive cooperation and progress, putting an end to the decades of confrontation. * * * If we move together towards peace, history may record these times as a landmark -- for Israel, for its neighbors and for the world. An American visiting Israel is struck with many emotions: -- Our peoples are joined together by a cultural and religious heritage which has helped to chart the course of history.
