Dr. Herman Schlundt,
Department of Chemistry,
University of Missouri,
Columbia, Mo.
Dear Dr. Schlundt:
We are herewith enclosing you our check for
$39.75 to cover your expense account for trip to Chicago.
I am sorry to learn that you experienced some
inconvenience on your return trip, as at the best the trip from
Columbia to Chicago is rather strenuous.
There has been no developments of particular
interest in the mesothorium situation since my return, but am in
hopes that we can bring these matters to a definite decision dur-
ing the next week or two. In the meantime we shall be glad to have
your comments on the subject.
We have completed our preliminary tests on the
bone specimen of the Maggia case, and indications are that the bone
contains the equivalent of 65 to 75 micrograms of radium element.
As yet we have made nottest for mesothorium, but am inclined to
think that we will find some present, which probably accounts for
some of the higher alpha ray values so far obtained.
We have not sent you a specimen of this material
to date, due to the fact that I em anzious to get a part of the
specimen retained by the Texicologist who was present at the autopsy
and collected the specimens. If we were to send you a part of the
specimen we have there is always the question of its having been
tampered with or contaminated by some intentional or unintentional
means. This is a matter which we hope to have definitely settled
next week.
With kind regards, I remain
Sincerely yours,
HHBarker:RI
Vice President.
