A tree shades the foreground ; the houses beyond are clearly seen in bright sunshine and drawn with minute detail. The sign of The Club Inn projects from a house on the left beyond the tree. The burr has been scraped down from the foliage on the left of the trees, restoring somewhat the effect of the original light patch ; also from the leaves along the top edge of the plate on the right and from a narrow strip down the left side.

An open space with old houses, that on the right having three gables, on both sides. The tower of St. Cuthbert's Church is seen near the centre of the plate, rising over the top of a house. A notice board near the gabled house announces COFFEE. Beyond the market cross is a vista down a street. Near the houses are many figures; the foreground is vacant.

To the left, somewhat high on the plate, some half-dozen sailing boats lie moored along the quay ; a lofty warehouse and other buildings are seen between the masts. The height of the plate is 11 in. or 28 cm. The work is approximately finished. The quay is continued to the right beyond the last boats, almost to the edge of the plate, and there is an unfinished rowing boat, which was effaced before the first published state was printed.

Before the signature and before the horizon line to right of the last large boat. Traces remain of the distant quay which has been burnished out.

Part of the Padstow lifeboat HELEN PRICE and half-a-dozen small boats are seen stranded at low tide in a harbour. Behind the first two buildings the rigging of the mystery ship is partly seen. Very unfinished; a large space on the right is quite white, with only a fragment of one house put in.

On the quay above its walls are seen, in succession, a large wooden building, a smaller inscribed MISSIONS TO SEAMANS, and a row of old houses. Behind the first two buildings the rigging of the mystery ship is partly seen. The wall much more shaded; boats retouched; a shadow added to the hawser of the "Helen Price." The triangular roof on the extreme right i.e. covered with tiles; there is a tiled front to the house behind the cart; there are many other small changes to the buildings.

Behind the first two buildings the rigging of the mystery ship is partly seen. The whole design completed; the wall of the harbour on the right, between the upright supports, is very lightly shaded.

The new Strand

On the left is the Church of Mary-le-Strand; near it, to the right, a lofty modern building - the Gaiety Restaurant - light in tone, and in the background the Waldorf Hotel. In front of the new buildings is an empty space, enclosed by a hoarding, with young trees growing along the pavement on two sides of it. Near the corner of this empty space is a triangular staging, surmounted by a crane, erected during the progress of a new building in July, 1908. The criss-cross pattern on the crane made more continuous and its supports darkened. A short, slanting line has been added Just within the right upper corner.
