Letter from Walter Hilliard Bidwell, New York, to Amos Augustus Phelps, 12 April 1843
W. H. Bidwell, the proprietor of the New York Evangelist, writes to Amos A. Phelps to discuss Phelps's proposal to act as the paper's foreign correspondent during his visit to England. Bidwell says he would like the idea as long as he can make some suggestions. He proceeds to mention the possibility of “Br. Johnson” occupying Phelps's pulpit while Phelps is in England. That will allow Johnson to “enter into the interests of Evangelic Religion in Boston & have an opportunity to extend our influence in New England.”
