Large residential home, possibly owned by Erastus Thompson, the owner of a Hopkinton boot factory who lived on Hayden Rowe. 3 1/2 stories, gable end chimneys, 1 utility pole (telephone), 3-column/2-story overhang, gas light lamppost in front of house. Much of the view of the house is obscured by 3 large trees. 1 structure, possibly a barn or carriage house, to left rear. A gentlemen's social gathering appears to be taking place at the home, with 3 horse-drawn buggies parked in front (2 men and a white horse, 1 man and a dark horse, another 2 men with a white horse). A man in the left side background rides on a dark horse pulling a surrey. In front of him, a larger covered carriage without a horse bears the advertisement "Confectionery and Cigars," with the name T.J Sanderson also painted on its side. 1 man on extreme left of image can be seen sitting down, he may be selling cigars and candy from the back of the carriage. 12 men and a boy stand as a group on the house's porch. All of them have hats, mostly derby hats, as well as 4 straw hats. Photo includes a small scrap of paper, originally glued to back of photo, bearing a handwritten note: "Thompson Home, 1885."
