2. SCOPE-
ALL BUREAU OF SHIPS REQUIREMENTS FOR NEW SHIPS, WHETHER:
a). Regular Navy Construction (plus AVG conversions).
b). Emergency Construction.
c). Defense Aid.
(Defense A1d vessels are included with
their U. S. Navy Counterparts - 1. e.
"YMS" includes YMS plus BYMS.)
Note: (Maintenance, repair, alteration,
and conversions included in com-
ponents where possible to schedule.)
3. Total Production Required: Based on Bureau of Ships interpreta-
tion of current Navy Department or National or United
Nations plans whether formally promulgated or not.
4. In Production Schedule: Covered by definite commitments.
5. Authorized but Not Ordered: Ships fully authorized, appropriated
for, and cleared by President (SecNav) (CNO) but not con-
tracted for. Components for same, plus components for ships
in production schedule which themselves have not yet been
ordered.
6. REFERENCE POINTS:
a). All progress will be shown relative to predictions on
1 Nov. 1941. All Statistics start with 11 June 1940.
b). No vessels contracted for after 1 Nov. 1941 are snown
in vertical comparison bars appearing on left-hand
pages. Estimates for April 1942, (vertical "E" bars
on left-hand pages for 3/42) include actual progress
April 1 thru 15 plus estimates for April 16 thru 30.
