typified in the phrase "the forgotten man". He considers the Pres

reelected. The writer is not a jeweler, but he has managed to make

President Franklin D. Roosevelt,
Dear Mr. Roosevelt:
the If Department of Justice. I have gone to the place suggested.
I am indeed very grateful for he letter from
it were not for the study I took up immediately after di-
vorce, my problems would seem more difficult. I studied with my
(who at one time was the Embassador to this country) also a
Spanish teacher in the University at Syracuse and here, the
Hidden things of Life, Mysticism and the ccult, which gives
a very clear understanding of Races and peoples. I am contact-
ing all day long so have a great psychology of human beings.
I passed for teacher before I was twenty, but father being
dead the trustees would'nt give me a chance owing to the Estate
left to mother. We can't place men and women with two senses
developed in the same category with the sixth sense development
(which is intuition) and so it is Nations have War. The mass
is usually the two sense development.
If our Mayors and their sub-ordinates were
so evolved they could make an analysis of the county they rule,
and then this submitted to the Governor of his State, and then
all these "want slips" (as they use in the large stores here,)
submitted to you and the Senate, you might know just where the
fault lies. I worked in the French room at Mandel's here (hats)
when I was trying to help other people, Mr. Mandel said he never
knew up in his office what was wanted down stairs until we took
note of everything people wanted, and so it would be if they took
a survey of their counties, and in general knew their people.
Tolerance and forbearance right now is the
keynote to keeping our standards, and the Christ S words "do unto
others, etc." is to be kept in mind. Planting of-flowers and of
fruit it is a great better than taking a life.
I always remember not many years ago, going
to a wonderful place, Ojai, California, a place where we had a
large Convention, no blood shed was ever done on that ground, wese
had a thousand pitched tents and meditation in the morning under
the Oaks, honey and cream that was brought down fresh every morn-
ing and biscuits that were baked by bankers under the tents, noo.
meat of anykind.
I was reared a Lutheran, however I have at-
tendedd and sang many years in a Church and I ask the Archbishop
(not Roman "why Christ selected the smelly fishermen" and he said
"because they were men without guile". So it is with the placing
of men and women in positions, I had such an awful experience with
the NRA that when I resigned, I said "with God's help I would make
good, well I have at least paid my rent and not much njoyment
outside of trying to help others with their problems, as I had
studied 25 years with renowned Doctors here, who have since died.

Fear and superstitutiom are the greatest gateways to letting
in the wrong Forces, and we as Americans can stand by our
ideals and Old Glory and be victorious in a humane way and
know that we "can have good will towards men" even though
we don't love them.
I used to sit down at the Senate, Mr. Simon
Adler was one of my best friends, as Governor Miller from our
City went in and I went down with the Assemblymen and their
wives. Today I am doing very hard work, almost out of my
line, preparing a little Marmalade for my living, I tried
to do a few things Christ expects us to do, and fed my brother
man when I had it.
I have a very small little article that was
on my private Shrine a good many years, which I am mailing you
under separate cover, who will stand by all the time.
I go to the Fourth Presbyterian Church here
it is lovely and the Ministry nothing more sincere than Doctor
Andersen and Timothy Stohe.
Dr. Stone has a beautiful Shrine room and
every morning at 9 he has prayers with his menhand Servers.
I always admired George Washington a great deal, he always
before he went to battle, remembered His Saviour.
A thousand thanks and many good wishes.

Dear Mr.Roosevelt:-
My faith in the things you have done
for the welfare and betterment of us, the people of your country,
makes me bold to write this little note of appreciation and
gratitude, at a time when enclosed. these may be encouraging to you.
I am sending a Miraculous Medal of the Beessed Virgin
Mary, in whom we Catholics have great faith and on whose protection
we rely a lot, since her Divine Son must have trusted her SO much.
Thru this medal she has obtained many favors from God; I send it
that you, with the faith in God which you possess, may keep it on
your person always. With the help of God and His blessed Mother
may you long be able to serve your people who have needed you and
do still need you so badly!

Dear Mr. President:
Prayer is a lowly gift, but one at which no man can dare to
scoff in these critical times through which our country and the whole
world is passing.
My prayers and the prayers of others for you and all those
who sit, by the grace of God, in higher places should not, therefore, be
unwelcome. I feel you will agree that it is only through prayer and the
guidance of the Creator that leaders are given the prudence, the discernment
and the wisdom to direct their actions toward the eventual happiness and
good of their nation and its people.

AGRARIAN CONFLICTS IN COLONIAL NEW YORK, 1711-1775
By Irving Mark

Published: October 10, 1940
Studies in History, Economics and Public Law, No. 469
This study adds new knowledge to the real causes of the social struggles
of the Colonial period. Heretofore it has not been possible to say more than
that they represented cleavages of rich and poor, of upper and lower classes,
of conservative and radical, of landlord and tenant. The complexities of these
struggles are now shown to give deeper and more significant explanation of the
conflicts. These have their roots, as would be expected, in the interrelation-
ships of economic, social, legal, and political factors.
This study takes for its field the differences of landlord and small
farmer in those portions of the Hudson valley which were the centers of agra-
rian discontent shortly before and during the Revolution. Dr, Mark has probed
deep for the causes, course, and conclusion of those conflicts of yeomen,
landlords, and speculators which made the eve of the Revolution such a turbu-
lent period. His findings have new and rich meaning for American historians.

My dear Mr. President:
It is a genuine pleasure in connection with nation-wide observance
of Wine Week to present you with these examples of fine American
made wine.
World-wide conditions and the difficulty of importing the wines
which formerly came into this country in large quantities are
teaching many Americans what a real asset we have in our own vine-
yards and our own processing plants.
The progress which this truely American industry has made in recent
years is due largely to the sympathetic cooperation which it has
received from your administration since the repeal of the prohibition
amendment.
I am sure that I speak for the entire wine industry when I express
the deep felt appreciation of your kindness and the hope that you
will enjoy these wines as much as we enjoy presenting them to you.
Respectfully,
Milton S. Kronheim

Dear Steve:

In connection with National Wine Week which is
being sponsored from October 13, to October 20, by the Wine Institute,
of California, we would like to present to the President a basket of
American wines.
T#
We realize, of course, that a direct presentation
to Mr. Roosevelt at this time would be out of the question, but, in
view of the importance of the week to the rapidly developing American
wine industry, we wonder if it would be possible for you to designate
some one at the White House to receive the wine.
We would, of course, be glad to make the presentation
at any time which might be set by you, but would naturally prefer that
it be as early in the week as possible.
With best personal regards,

My dear Mrs. Cartier:
In the President's behalf, I want to
thank you for your letter of October twenty-
ninth. He much appreciates your writing and
is ever so grateful for your good will.
I regret that we are unable to meet
your wishes. However, the number of requests
similar to the one you make which are constant-
ly being received is so overwholming that it is
impossible for the President to comply with them.
I am sure you will understand.
Very sincerely yours,
