THE WHITE HOUSE
The President today announced his intention to nominate Rex E. Lee, of
Provo, Ut ah, to be an Assistant Attorney General (Civil Division). He
will succeed Carla A. Hills who was appointed Secretary of Housing and
Urban Development on March 10, 1975.
Since 1972, Mr. Lee has been Dean and Associate Professor at the College
of Law, Brigham Young University, Provo, Utah. From 1964 to 1972,
he was engaged in the private practice of law with the firm of Jennings,
Strouss and Salmon of Phoenix, Arizona. He was a law clerk to Justice
Byron R. White from 1963 to 1964.
Mr. Lee was born on February 27, 1935, in Los Angeles, California. He
received his B.A. degree in 1960 from Brigham Young University . He
received his J.D. degree cum laude from the University of Chicago Law
School in 1963.
Mr. Lee is married to the former Janet Griffin and they have five children.
