Main Street in 1838 from Warner's Coffee House
The picture opens to the direction of Bridge Street. In the
distance is seen the old Pomeroy Homestead. To the left of the
Coffee House rises the white spire of the First Church almost
hiding the old Court House. Opposite, occupying the present
site of the Columbian Building, is the Edwards Church built in
1833. Adjoining stands the residence of Dr. Hunt and from this
building in 1870 a fire spread destroying the church after which
it was rebuilt on the present site farther up the street.
