GOVERNMENT PRINTING OFFICE 16-61120-1 The Tugoslav Ambassador called on March 18, by appointment nado at bis request, and, after discussing another matter cover in a separate menorandum, raised the question of the tripartite economic aid discussions now taking place in Weshington, with particular roforence to the Yugoslav investment progzam. The Anbassador said that recent information he has roceived from the Interna- tional Bank has disturbed him considerably. The Bank apparently is unable to persuade the British and Prench to malce available storling and francs to anable it to carry out the agroed investment progran assistance. He urged that the British and Fronch be preased in the tripartite talks to implement their undertakings or that the US endeavor to assist the Yugoalav investment program shrough other sources, such as the Export-Import Bank. The Imbassador said that his government has completed, or will conplete shortly, preliminary construction of various plants contemplated by the investment program and that such plants are and will be awaiting the necessary nachinery to start production. The Ambassador was informed that his previous representations in this con- nection at his earlier call have been made known to Nr. Thorp, who is fully cognizant of the problena involved and the importance of the investment program. In response to nis direct request, I said that I will interest myself in the matter and will be prepared to discusa it further with the Imbassador.
