United States Senate
WASHINGTON, D.C.
January 8, 1935
Mr. Edgar C. Hinde
1500 West Lexington
Independence, Missouri
Dear Edgar:
I fooled you - this is not the
appointment.
I called the Post Office Department
and they have asked for the resignation of the
present postmaster, and if it is not received
in about ten days he will be kicked out. When
this kicking is done, you will receive the
appointment.
I am not wasting any money on you
by sending a wire when a three-cent stamp will
do just as good. Just sit as steady in the boat
as you can, and if it takes six years we will make
you postmaster of Independence.
Sincerely,
HST:ML
Harry S. Truman
