The threat of infantile paralysis as each summer approaches
is of particular concern to the schools of this nation. Educators,
as well as parents, want more factual knowledge about the disease
and the procedures to follow when it occurs. Such information has
been provided by the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis
in a leaflet, "A Message about Polio," for distribution through
the schools. This timely health measure carries the hearty
endorsement of school administrators.
The reliable data in the leaflet, the common-sense precautions,
the assurance of medical care will bolster morale should epidemics
occur. Fear can be as infectious as polio itself and as harmful,
unless people are given the guidance and reassurance they need.
If the National Foundation's leaflet is given every pupil to take
home, I believe there will be far less anxiety and confusion about
this disease.
