Headquarters 35th Division TRUMAN BULLETEN ) ARCHIVES AND RECORDS LIBERTY American Expeditionary Forces 24th February 1919. NO. 50 1022. I. LETTER OF APPRECIATION. The following is published for the information of this command: "STATE OF MISSOURI Adjutant General's Office Jefferson City Jan. 28, 1919. Major General Peter E. Traub, 35th Division Amex. My dear General Traub: I thank you for sending me copies of the citations of the officers and enlisted men of the 35th Division and the other data attached thereto. This morning I am in receipt likewise of the memorandum from Major Thurston announcing the award of the Medal of Honor to Captain Skinker, 138th Infantry, and your memorandum of December 23rd to the officers and enlisted men in reference to Christmas. We are engaged in preparing a history of the participation of the 35th Division in the war with biography sketch of the officers and enlisted men, and in collecting for preservation in the archives of the State all data, etc,, bearing upon the service of the Division. Later it is proposed to publish this data in appropriate volumes. I am sure you will be in hearty accord with this undertaking and will be grateful if you will furnish us from time to time any information, copies of orders. memorandums, etc., which in your judgement should be preserved by the State. I need not tell you that the people of Missouri' are intense- ly proud of the magnificent record made by the Division, I gave wide publicity in the State to your splendid tribute to the officers and men serving under you and the same 11, of course, appear in the published records, etc., we are preparing here. With assurance of my high regard and again expressing the appreciation of the State authorities, Very truly yours, H. C. CLARK Adjutant General." (over) II. CORPS RIFLE MATCH. The following is published for the information of this Command: "HEADQUARTERS NINTH ARMY CORPS American Expeditionary Forces A. P. 0. #932. France, February 19, 1919. From: Commanding General, IXth Army Corps, mo: Commanding General, 35th Division Subject: Corps Rifle Match. 1. The Corps Commander extends his congratulations to the Commanding General, 35th Division, and to the officials and members of the rifle team on the decisive victory won on the occasion of the Corps Rifle Match, held February 15, 1919, near APREMONT. The scores as furnished by the statistical officer are as given below: 35th Division 88th Division 79th Division 7808 6627 6344 These scores show that the 35th Division won by a margin of 1181 points over the 88th Division and by a margin of 1464 points over the 79th Division. It is noteworthy that of the three events fired, twó at known distances and one a skirmish run at unknown distances, the 35th Division showed a decided superiority over the other divisions in the last event, indicating a high state of train- ing for combat, 2, The Corps Commander takes pleasure in transmitting here- with the sum of two hundred ( 200) francs, jointly donated by the Corps Ordnance Officer and the Ordnance Officers of the competing divisions for the purpose of purchasing a suitable trophy to the winning team. I request that you take the necessary steps to provide this trophy. JOSEPH E. KUHN Major General, U. S. As Commanding." III. CHLORINATION OF DRINKING WATER, All water used by troops of this command for drinking pur- poses will be either boiled or chlorinated. All units without lister bags will requisition on the Quartermaster for same immediately, tak- ing these with them for use enroute for chlorination of drinking water and after arrival in the new area.
