Henry Fowler first meeting as Director of Defense Mobilization was
introduced by President to Cabinet.
81% of press is supporting Eisenhower. 15% supporting Stevenson.

Message from President and Churchill to Mossadegh on Iran oil
situation was not received very favorably. He suspected it was a trap.
In Egypt things are going SO well that he is afraid there must be a catch
in it.

Production in July was good. In August it was also good especi-
ally in view of the steel strike.

were produced in the past month. There are 4 strike affecting
M-47 tank production but they are not too serious. Is concerned about
threat of slowdown activity by Communist Electrical Workers Union in
Atomic Energy Plant construction. This might slow down completion of
plants as much as 4 or 5 months.
