The President has received your re-
cent letter and appreciates your interest in
letting him have this expression of your views.
He asks me to advise you that on October seven-
teenth he returned S. 1407 to the Senate with-
out his approval.
I am sending you the enclosed copy
of the President's veto message for your ready
reference.
