My dear Doctor Armstrong:
The President has read your letter of
April nineteenth with the deepest interest. He
certainly appreciates the thought which prompted
you to suggest that the Greek vase recently pre-
x206-misc
sented to him be given to the Browning Library
at Baylor University. He is not, of course, un-
mindful of the honor conferred upon him by the
University and he is highly pleased by your kind
words, but I am afraid that your suggestion can-
not be complied with as there is only one vase,
600 B.C., and that is on loan to the Smithsonian
x 302
Institution for display at the National Museum
for the enjoyment of the general public who daily
302-& -
visit there.
The President particularly requested me
to extend his kindest regards and best wishes to
you and his other friends at Baylor.
Very sincerely yours,
WILLIAM D. HASSETT
