The time was long, I confess, but indifference on my part had no share in my apparent neglect. Presure from my duties and many social obligations have prevented my writing to you sooner; and I think I must ask you to kindly ac- cept my excuses. I reached Korea in late May. Now I take the first opportunity of writing to you in order to express my sincerest and warmest grati- tude for your generous courtesy I received during my recent visit to your country. Words fail to express my gratitude for your more than kindness and such immediate help of necessaries you gave me in the States. to REUMAN NARA It was indeed an invaluable experience to be able to have had the grand opportunity of learning and witnessing the modern and ad- vanced police methods in a democratic country as yours. For my own part, I only wish it would have been a longer one. So much has happened during the past few weeks that were I to sit down and to recollect what took place, I would simply be at a loss as to where to begin. On returning home, I was assigned to Chief of Administration, National Police Headquarters, which is so important a position to the effective operation of the whole Republic of Korea National Police Force. I have indeed turned over a new leaf; and have at present been occupied with much work being piled upon before me. I am firmly determined to contribute towards the building of a democratic police in our country with the knowledges and experiences I gained during my stay in your country. Today in Seoul there are approximately a little over nine hun- dred thousand people, nearly a half of its original population. The partially destroyed buildings, remnants of a war-torn city is a grusome and constant reminder to those of us here in Seoul. The will to resist and to repel aggression, the will to carry on this struggle until unity and unification is achieved, and the will to rebuild this city of Seoul with our determination and faith, continues to cherish
