NATIONAL POLICE, REPUBLIC OF KOREA
Sebul, Korea
20 June 1953
ASPA-SL-106
Dear Sir:
You must really think me guilty of great negligence in delay-
ing so long to express my gratitude for your kindness which was as
welcome to me as it was kind of you. The time was long, I confess,
but indifference on my part had no share in my apparent neglect.
Presure from my duties and many social obligations have prevented
my writing to you sooner; and I think I must ask you to kindly ac-
cept my excuses.
I reached Korea in late May. Now I take the first opportunity
of writing to you in order to express my sincerest and warmest grati-
tude for your generous courtesy I received during my recent visit to
your country. Words fail to express my gratitude for your more than
kindness and such immediate help of necessaries you gave me in the
States.
to REUMAN NARA
It was indeed an invaluable experience to be able to have had
the grand opportunity of learning and witnessing the modern and ad-
vanced police methods in a democratic country as yours. For my own
part, I only wish it would have been a longer one.
So much has happened during the past few weeks that were I to
sit down and to recollect what took place, I would simply be at a
loss as to where to begin. On returning home, I was assigned to
Chief of Administration, National Police Headquarters, which is so
important a position to the effective operation of the whole Republic
of Korea National Police Force. I have indeed turned over a new
leaf; and have at present been occupied with much work being piled
upon before me. I am firmly determined to contribute towards the
building of a democratic police in our country with the knowledges
and experiences I gained during my stay in your country.
Today in Seoul there are approximately a little over nine hun-
dred thousand people, nearly a half of its original population.
The partially destroyed buildings, remnants of a war-torn city is a
grusome and constant reminder to those of us here in Seoul. The will
to resist and to repel aggression, the will to carry on this struggle
until unity and unification is achieved, and the will to rebuild this
city of Seoul with our determination and faith, continues to cherish
Relations
