Enclosure no. 2 to despatch no. 2639 from American Embassy, Rio de Janeiro, dated August 4, 1947 AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE FOR BRAZIL Avenida Graça Aranha, 182 Rio de Janeiro Office of the President July 28th, 1947. Dear Mr. Snyder The some seventy-five businessmen, most of whom are members of this Chamber, and who were the guests at the luncheon given by Ambassador William D. Pawley in your honor, and held at the Copacabana Palace Hotel on July 24th, have asked me to tell you that they simply would not have missed being present on that occasion for anything. They were so impressed with you, and by what you had to say and the manner in which you said it, that some of them became even inarticulate in their endeavor to adequately express their feelings. Their contact with you at that luncheon convinced them that the financial affairs of our country are in the hands of a very capable individual. And it takes some doing to convince a group of that size and make-up in such a short space of time, and where the subject is of such importance and at such a high level. I can assure you that few, if any, visiting representatives of our government have made as profound and positive an impression on the American businessmen of this Community as you did. I am taking the liberty of attaching a copy of my letter of today's date to Ambassador Pawley, on the same subject. Our Chamber of Commerce is preparing a collection of photographs and newspaper reports resulting from this luncheon, in which I thought you would be interested, and which I will have delivered to you tomorrow. May I reiterate our gratitude for the opportunity of meeting you and hearing you. The members of this Community join me in wishing that your return trip to the United States will be a pleasant and safe one, and that you will again give us the privilege and pleasure of another visit in the not too distant future. Respectfully yours, ARCHIVES "NATIONAL RECORDS AND RALPH E. MOTLEY President The Honorable John W. Snyder, Secretary of the Treasury of the United states, c/o American Embassy, Rio de Janeiro.
