I accordingly give you my full agreF-\nment on the directives which you propose to s end\nto GEn Eisenhower concerning coal production in\nGErmany. I add that I intend to s end without delay\nsimilar directives to the Commander in Chief of the\nFren forces in GErmany.\nI wish to conv ey to you the great appreciation\nof the Fren Govt for the initiative which you have\njust taken which if it is followed by the prompt\narrival in France of important quantities of GErman\ncoal, will permit our country to play a more impor-\ntant role in the conduct of military operations\nagainst the common EnEmy and in the E-Establishment\nof Economic conditions necessary for stability and\npeace in the world. I wish, however, to Emphasize\nthe extreme urgency of our needs.
