February 11, 1948 5417 Dear Mr. Bruce: I appreciated very much your letter of the fourth and there has never been any idea on my part that you had not followed the ethical course in regard to commodity trading and business connections. This whole attack is simply a political one and has nothing to do with the fundamental situation. I think, however, that we have finally driven the speculators out of the market and I am hoping that prices as a result will adjust themselves at a point that will be sound and keep the economy solvent. I appreciated what you had to say about the Argentine situation and I hope it will continue to be favorable, TRUMAN Sincerely yours, s. AND TRATIORAL HARRY S. TRUMAN Honorable James Bruce American Ambassador Buenos Aires, Argentina
