TELEGRAM

Telephoned memorandum for
THE PRESIDENT
From Prime Minister MacKenzie King:
Reference our conversation.
Both gentlemen while most appreciative of suggestion
that one or the other should further consider his decision, quite
firm in their opinion that they should adhere to the position they
have taken not to accept greatly honored as they feel by the proposal.
They desire me to let this be known to you. Knowing the careful
thought each have given the matter also what the resignation of his
present position by either would mean to Canada at this time, I do
not feel I should speak to urge further consideration of the matter
upon them. I am quite confident to do so would be of little or no
avail. You will, I am sure appreciate the force of the many
considerations of which we have all had to take account.
Kindest regards.
