developing native industry and water power, and financial
stability.
I assured the President that the Republican success
in our elections would bring about no change in United States
foreign policy which will be directed by President Truman in
complete agreement with the policy he has previously announced.
I told him that there is no difference between the two parties
in their attitude toward President Truman's foreign policy.
President Gonzales expressed high appreciation of
the visit of our squadron saying that its effect will be
highly beneficial to future closer relations and better under-
standing between our people.
Following this interview with the President I attended
a luncheon given by the newly appointed Minister of Defense
Mr. Bulnes to about a hundred officers of the Chilean and
foreign Armed Forces present. Upon requést of the Minister
of Defense I made a four minute complimentary talk to the
assembled guests and then proceeded directly to the WISCONSIN
which with the Squadron go t underway at 4:00 p.m.
