The special British Air Mission was barely polite
to our officers during the visit.
President Gonzales Videla's policy as explained by
him to me is in very close agreement with the principles of
our Democratic party. Some of his followers told me that he
is the Franklin Roosevelt of Chile.
He is an experienced politician with a charming
personality, young, energetic, and determined to succeed.
Most of the Chileans with whom I made contact are
definitely afraid of a Communit uprising in the not distant
future. I have a feeling that the President shares in this
apprehension but that he hopes to prevent an actual uprising.
