The Ambasnador then\nmentioned the two- nan United Nations Mission now in Chile\nstudying the economy of the country, and he also mentioned\na report of the World Bank counselling against further\nloans to Chile until measures to overcone inflation had\nbeen adopted. The Ambassador added that this might lead\nto a vicious circle because Chile needed the money to in-\ncrease production and thereby overcome inflation.\nUpon leaving the Ambassador expressed his apprecia-\ntion of the interest shown by the Administration and the\nState Department in Chilean affairs, and said that his\nGovernment was very grateful for this interest and support.\nThe President responded to the effect that we were\nsincerely interested in Chile and that we would do what\nwe could to help that country in resolving the problens\nthat faced it.\nARCHIVES AND 'NATIONAL\nSERVICE'\n=\n.\nS/S-PR: SNoodward:lbd\nRDO MICTED"
