the Copy EMBAJADA DE CHILE WASHINGTON 6 COPY With the unanimous approval of the Cabinet, the heads of the various political parties, leaders of Congress, the heads of the unions, and public opinion in general, the President of Chile, Mr. Gabriel Gonzalez Videla, decided to denounce the agreement respecting the price and distribution of copper, made in May 1951 with the Government of the United States of America. The denouncement covers two points of the ARCHIVES AL SERVICE' Agreement: a) 20% freely disposable and, therefore, recovery by Chile of freedom to dispose of 100% of the production of the large mines; b) the agreement on a price of 27.5 cents per pound for copper that was being sold to the United States. The Ambassador of Chile in Washington was instructed to previously announce this denouncement to the Department of State, and to afterwards indicate by note to the same Department that the denouncement would take effect on May 8th. Also, he received instructions to personally explain to His Excellency The President of the United States, and to the Department of State, the very grave reasons which motivated the Chilean Government to take a resolution, which could not be postponed.
