AMERICAN RELIEF FOR ITALY, INC.
Office of Foreign Representative
Rome February 15, 1946.
Mr. Myron C. Taylor
71 Broadway
New York
Dear Mr. Tay lor:
I am taking the liberty of sending to you a copy of the letter I have
written to Judge Marchisio. I feel that it will bring to you some recent
information in which you will be interested.
Things are going quite well however I do regret the rapid withdrawal
of the Armed Forces from Italy and from Europe generally.
At the invitation of the Military Officials we are extending our
operations to the North. I have been very much pleased with the operations
in this northern section so far. The work around Bologna has been carried
on very effectively by efficient representatives of ENDSI. I had not been
favorable to the plan of wrapping each individual package in paper but seeing
this program in operation I feel that the additional expenses are justifiable.
It first of all lessens the possibility of di scrimination by those giving out
the packages; it lends a certain interest to the receipient who has the
pleasure of opening the package and on the whole gives order and dignity to
the distribution itself. The expense of the paper and wrapping have been born
entirely by either ENDSI or the Provincial and Communal Committees of the
communities in which the listributions are being made.
So far the American Red Cross and Army Officials have been satisfied with
our program.
Regret is espressed by everyone that you and Mrs. Taylor are not here
for the concistory. Sandra has requested I include in this letter her expression
of kindest regards for you and Mrs. Tay lor.
My wife joins me in sending to you and Mrs. Taylor our very best wishes
and we honestly hope that we may greet you soon in Italy.
Respectfully and most sincerely yours,
/s/ John McSweeney
