"Great Britain has been supplying Egypt for the
last ten days (petrol) for the last ten days for
over 1 1/2 million of her surplus war material
-1936 agreement- If Egypt's civilian petrol is
not rationed soon this will mean that Great Britain
will give Egypt her own petrol surplus from her
refineries at Suez. Trans jordan has made agreement
with Shell and Socony-Vacuum to receive per month
2,000 barrels of 42 gallons each of petrol payable
in dollars. The price is believed to be quite high. =
(2) Cable from Cairo dated March 17th reads:

"The British Army has sold to the Egyptian War
SERVICE^
Department material amounting to 3 1/2 million pounds
sterling. The contract comes into operation May 1st.
The goods will be delivered at Ismailia (Suez Canal
zone). This arrangement enables the War Department
to avoid using its existing warehouses. According to
information obtained from the railway station its
Cairo depots have not dispatched any goods recently.
The above transaction provided the Egyptian army with
30 spitfires."
